How to get Legendary Pokémon in Pokémon GO

When Pokémon Go was released, it took everyone by storm because it was a perfect mix of high-quality gaming with the correct nostalgic aspects. The type of Pokémon and the exact replication of the gyms and locations we used to see when we were kids were there. And with the help of technology, this AI-driven augmented reality game ruled the world and is still one of the top downloaded games in the world. There were numerous Pokémon of various types, which people could catch and use in leagues and battles, but the introduction of legendary Pokémon took place after a whole year of the game’s launch.

There are all sorts of legendary Pokémon introduced in Pokémon Go. It saw the flying trio of Articuno, Moltres, and Zapdos together along with the mythical god’s mew and mew two.

Pokémon Go Legendary Catching Guide

The fact that you get to catch Pokémon which are the only ones in the world, unlike the other normal Pokémon, kept people going and wanted more of these legendaries in the game. There are still certain Pokémon that need to be introduced, and they will come into play slowly. Gamers who have completed the central part of the game are looking forward to catching these exclusive Pokémon and having a classy and elegant team.

When Did Legendary Pokémon Appear?

These Pokémon don’t roam around freely, nor do they stay in one place all the time. Niantic unlocked these legendary Pokémon after the Pokémon Go fest took place, and this was the first time legendary birds were spotted flying in the sky. In the summer of 2017, when people started spotting moltres and Articuno in the sky, they knew that legendaries would be introduced soon enough. By the autumn, Suicune and other legendary Pokémon came into play, and by the time we reached the winters, Groudon came around, which was the beginning of generation 3 Pokémon.

How Are Legendaries Available?

Earlier, when this was launched for the first time, the legendaries were available only to those who cleared the legendary raid, which is supposedly the most challenging kind of raid battle ever to exist. With time, these Pokémon started appearing in the research breakthrough awards when the gamers completed the field research quests. This is not very common, but it does happen sometimes. Another thing about these legendary raids is that it doesn’t occur the way regular attacks do. There are specific periods and locations where these raids happen, and once you capture them within the period mentioned, you are good to go.

There is a particular type of raid battle called the EX raid battle, which features legendary Pokémon like mew two, and you can only get into this battle if you have the EX legendary pass. You need to keep in mind other pointers before entering a battle this way, but it is a talk for another time.

The legendary raid battles occur the same way as any other battle, and once it’s over, you have to capture the legendary Pokémon similarly. The capture rate of these raids is significantly low, but the CP these legendary Pokémon offer is exceptionally high. Zapdos has a CP of 42,691, Lugia has 42,753, and the exclusive mew two has 49,430. These Pokémon aren’t like your normal Pokémon, and thus this CP is something which keeps them glorious always.

Another thing to keep in mind is that the buddy distance for legendary Pokémon and the candy for them is 20 km so keep your length before you capture them in the raid battles. You can’t use these legendary Pokémon to defend gyms, but they are indeed a part of specific battles where they can get pretty defensive.

Special Research On Legendary Pokémon

  • There is a quest in Pokémon Go called “A mythical discovery”, and this is where Mew was spotted for the first time. This is the only quest from which you can capture mew and mew two.
  • Pokémon go on a drive to investigate is careful research whose tickets aren’t available anymore, but this was the way to capture Genset.
  • If you want to get your hands on Jirachi, you need to complete the Pokémon go thousand-year slumber research quest.
  • Celebi is available through the “a ripple in time” research quest.
  • Regigigas can be obtained through the “Pokémon go a colossal discovery” quest.

How To Capture The Legendary Pokémon

The capturing process is similar to any other Pokémon. You have to defeat them in a battle and then proceed to capture them. It isn’t as easy as it seems to be, though. There was research which was conducted by the silph road, which is a Pokémon go community, and they mentioned the following points:

  1. The base catch rate of a Pokémon in Pokémon Go for legendaries is 3% which means one in 33 chances that you will catch a Pokémon directly using a ball.
  2. If you use golden raspberries or curveballs, your chances will increase. Also, if you hold a bronze, silver, or gold medal, your options will improve. Similarly, getting friendly, excellent, and great throws can also keep you in the game.
  3. Mew two has a catch rate of 6%, which is reasonable and doable.
  4. If you are a gold medal holder with golden raspberries and a curveball in your sachet and you get an excellent throw, you can easily catch the legendary.

Advice To Catch Legendary Pokémon

Before you go on your quest to catch these exclusive and exciting Pokémon, you need to remember a few things. You can’t expect to get a legendary Pokémon on your first raid and try. They are tough creatures and stealthy, making it super difficult for you. Make sure you use the golden raspberries and curveballs to defend and catch these Pokémon, although the golden curveballs are premier balls, and you can run out of them. So, you need to be clear with your aim and be sure that you can catch the Pokémon or else your balls will go waste, and you will regret it.

If you are done with a raid, and you see a shiny legendary, ensure that you use a pinup berry right after it and your premier ball because you are sure to catch it. Another thing to keep in mind is that when you are throwing a golden curveball, make sure that the legendary Pokémon has already played its attack so that when you launch the ball towards them, they don’t hit it and flick it away.

Sometimes you may have all the necessary resources and skills to defeat a legendary Pokémon and capture it, but you are having trouble with the raids. In such situations, you can join any community on either Reddit or discord, and since a lot of players will be going through the sign-in problems for the raid, you all can organize one for yourself and then play. Having people to discuss it with will also help you develop new skills for battle and improve your chances of capturing the legendary Pokémon significantly.

These Pokémon may be a tough job to conquer, but with the right attitude, even they will be with you.
